    Your Web Site

Your website may be as basic as one page of information, or an entire online store, complete with mail-order capability. Whatever type page you desire, certain elements are vital for success.

  • The first thing to do is determine your content, who your site will target, and what design will most accurately express your business or purpose.
  • Second, select your domain name, if you choose to have a domain, and the hosting option best suited to your endeavor.
  • Third, assemble the specific elements required for your successful web site.

  • YOU provide the most essential element for your site -- that is the Content. This will be text, photographs, information, links or whatever you provide to be the focus your site.

  • 1. Content: What is your goal? What do you intend to convey to your viewer? It should be accurate and convey what information or services you offer, stimulate interest, and have a direct purpose. The purpose might be to inform and invite customers to your physical location, to sell them a specific product or philosophy, or to entertain them.
    2. Graphics: You may choose to present a text-only site, but you may wish to feature pictures of your business, products, or yourself. You might wish to have an attractive color scheme, or theme which ties your site together.
    3. Links: An e-mail link will be provided. You may wish to link to other sites about your subject.
    4. Site Address: Your site will require a "home" which might be on the server of your Internet Service Provider, a free service supported by advertising, or you may wish to have your own internet domain and have independent hosting. Specify exactly where you want your site posted.

    Web Page and Site Content

    Purpose

Determine the purpose and target audience of your web page. Is it for hobby, personal, business or other?

    Design

Decide what style page you prefer. Do you wish to convey a business-like impression, or something warm and cozy? What colors will you want to use on your site? If you are part of a corporation or larger company, keep in mind they may have guidelines or even prohibitions by which you must abide.

If you have a favored style in mind for your Web Site, it will be very helpful to sketch the layout with placement of graphics, photos and text, or write out the design description in detail. If you have color preferences in mind, and examples available when discussing your site but it isn't necessary to choose a specific design. With your logo and concept, the page design should effectively use the elements provided to create a site which will convey your content accurately and appropriately for the web medium.

    Text

You may send your text in the body of an e-mail or as an attached text file. Please save files as plain text, with a .txt file extension. Prepare your text carefully. Keep in mind that too much text may not hold your viewer's interest.

    Graphics

Keep in mind that the number of graphics and their size will affect the load speed of your page. If a page takes a long time to load, many viewers will not wait to see what you have to offer.

Digital photos, scans of your logo or other desired graphics may also be attached to an e-mail. In the body of the e-mail, please indicate the caption desired for each photo, or include a general description of the graphic.

If digital scanning of photos or graphics is required for the web page, a per-photo fee will apply.
