The German "Schranks" (cabinet -- der Schrank) have been moved to face the front "hall walk" by the living room. These are sort of like buffets with hutches on top, which I bought in Germany in January 1984. Because the living room was completely open to the front entry there is a walkway of vinyl flooring leading from the door to the kitchen. We put the two "schranks" along the edge of the carpet with an opening between them to enter the livingroom, which will remain my sewing room for the time being.
One of these has our family games in the lower portion of it (Monopoly, Life, Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble, Uno, Taboo, etc.) with batteries, hand held electronic games and the like in the top portion. My plan is to have a bowl there for each of us to put our wallet, stuff we need to mail, items we carry in but need remember to carry back out with us ... sort of like a mini-valet?
The other one has table and kitchen linens (including the ones for holidays) and vases, special mugs and other china/glassware we've collected through the years and can't seem to bear to part with. Hey, it's all very sentimental.
