August 15, 2005
Very quiet day. Started watching Buffy Season 4. REALLY smoky outside.

August 16, 2005
Finished watching Buffy Season 4. Still so smoky out there it's nasty.

August 17, 2005
Went to the Dr. and got bloodwork done. Stayed home and watched Angel Season 1. Smoke still icky and thick.

August 18, 2005
The smoke has cleared out some, thank goodness!!!
We finished Angel Season 1 and started Buffy Season 5. Had to go to bed early though, because Emily starts work tomorrow.

August 19, 2005
Emily started training for her job today. She did very well, but doesn't talk much. She seemed to enjoy it and is looking forward to Monday.

The Deacon Wive's Lunch at Player's Grill was nice. Looking forward to next month.

August 20, 2005
Annie will be home in two weeks! YAYYYYYY! We are cleaning house inbetween watching Buffy and Angel DVDs.

August 22, 2005
Yippee, I get to fill in at AVIS from 7am to 5pm. That will be lots of fun! Hm. On the other hand, I don't think I have been out of the house for longer than about 6 hours at a time since... gosh, APRIL? Or so? I dunno. I may have withdrawals or something. (laughing)

August 23, 2005
Owww. Working yesterday was fun, but I do take a full day to recuperate! I didn't totally forget everything about how to rent a car, but it'll take awhile to get fast again. Sure does make a dent in my day, though... hard to be a happy homemaker on top of a job.

Heard from Ken and Brenda Twining who are visiting Alaska this week. Hopefully I'll get to see them tomorrow evening, or if Bill is home he can take them flying to see the lay of the land.

August 24, 2005
Worked from about 10:30AM to 2:00 PM. That's my kind of hours! (laughing)

After Ken and Brenda got back from their riverboat and mining tours I picked them up and we went out to eat, then back to my house to see their vacation pictures. They saw some awesome stuff, and it was great to get the sneak preview. I'm ready to go on a cruise now!
After I took them back to their hotel, Emily and I watched just a LITTLE bit of Buffy Season 6, and then racked out, because she works on Thursday.

August 25, 2005
Annie's advisor from UAF phoned today. Her class schedule will work out fine as soon as her registration gets entered in, and it will give us an amount we'll have to come up with for tuition.
Emily and I finished Buffy Season 6, and she has tomorrow off. We will get caught up on housecleaning and enjoy the weekend since it looks like I'll be working Monday, Tuesday and then awhile on Wednesday night. No rest for the wicked, eh?

August 26, 2005
The girls are all signed up for their courses at UAF - 14 credit hours for Emily and 12 credit hours for Annie. Next comes paying the tuition/fees and then buying textbooks. Annie will also need a new version of Photoshop, I think -- for her Digital Photography class. Whew. Emily has been a positive, driving force in accomplishing the registration, financing and coordination of this effort. Yay!!! And thank you, Emily!
In the meantime I saw several courses I'd love to take too, so maybe NEXT Fall I will see if I can swing taking a few. That would be cool. I'd have to work REALLY hard to catch up and graduate with the girls, but wouldn't that be something? Three Dourte's graduating? (laughing) Nah! I will be plenty and most happy to see my girls do well.

Emily suggested we go see the Harvard Low-Keys and we are so thrilled that we did.
The LowKeys are a co-ed a cappella group of undergraduates performing arrangements from almost every genre and experimenting with music. They were awesome; sold out the entire auditorium, PLUS did a second show for at least 300 people because of the enthusiastic overflow of people wanting to hear them sing. Clips from their performance are on their website at: http://www.hcs.harvard.edu/~lowkeys/recordings/ Click the link to visit the page and hear a few clips.

Dance Arts Academy auditions today at 2 pm. Emily's ready to get back in the dance routine again. She made the choice of dance over trying out for "Bye Bye Birdie" which the local theatre group will perform in November. She knew that with her job (20 hours a week) and UAF courses (14 hours a week) which she planned around her Wedenesday night dance classes (about 3 and a half hours), her schedule would be way overloaded. In addition to work, school and dance she'll have homework and her household chores, so it's going to be a busy, busy year for her!

Daddy and I worked on Annie's desk a little more today. We didn't take any pictures this time. The legs are sort of delicate so we think screwing it to the wall would be a good idea, once she determines where she wants it. Under the window would be awesome because she could look outside while she is thinking. Still, she might want something else there, so we will wait til she's home to decide. I'm thinking it would also make a good "vanity table" for makeup and stuff, but it is a little bit big for that.

August 29, 2005
Cool enough -- I am doing a little more "fill in" at AVIS this week and if the calendar works out that way, I'll help out somewhat regularly for awhile. It'll be fun to get my toes back in the rental car world without jumping in over my head!
Being at work at 6 am is no picnic, but since it isn't day after day after day, I'm sure I'll be okay with it. Once or twice a week? Or so? It amazes me though, that working outside home totally tears a day up. It's like losing and huge chunk of time, except that I do enjoy interacting with the public a bit. So ... no loss, and a little gain to pay the bills. Is that excellent, or what?

Oh, and now I am reading The Fires of Heaven to relax and fall asleep. Nothing like a good, thick book to make your eyelids heavy!

August 30, 2005
Whew. I don't remember working being this PAINFUL in the feet!!! My back has been doing pretty good, but owwww, my feet hurt something fierce! Gonna have to do something about that. I still don't want to work full time "four-tens" but I do enjoy renting cars to people. I'll hang in there until I either acclimate or keel over.

August 31, 2005
Thank GOODNESS I didn't have to get up at 4:30 am today and go in to work. I will be going in at 6 pm for a few hours, but not a full day or anything. After that, I think I'm off until Monday the 5th. We'll see.
Emily sure seems to be enjoying her job and the great part is they'll work around her school schedule. Sadly, it doesn't look as though dance class is going to be 100% as she'd hoped for but as always, she'll do her best and give all she can.
We went to the UAF bookstore today to get the textbooks Annie and Emily will need for courses. English was $136.00 for the two of them, luckily they can share the materials, otherwise it would have been doubled. The rest (that were in stock) came to $385.00. Emily still needs 2 books and Annie needs 1 plus Photoshop PS, or some such. That'll be interesting.
After I got off work, we colored Emily's hair ... because TOMORROW she starts COLLEGE! Go Girl!!! Can't wait for Annie to come home and Join her!
