Sewing Reorganized

Okay -- Daddy's notebook shelf still looks pretty much the same except the top is cleaned off. I am still vaguely considering the option to switch it with the dresser and hutch that used to go with Annie's bedroom, and use that hutch and dresser to store fabric in drawers away from light, etc. Or not. Because these shelves are really heavy (even empty) and we had a heckuvatime getting them moved from the Family Room into the Sewing Room. Better alternative: get him new shelves when we're ready to do the loft to Library transition.

This looks worse than it is. I don't really have anyplace else to store the vacuum and steam cleaner, and don't mind (much) if they're here, just want them moved back to the wall once I get storage for the fabrics. That is a "down the road" project. For now, I can live with this.
Alrighty. I left the peach colored fabric over the boxes to all the sewing machines. You know in case we need to ship them for repairs and such? My goal is to eventually have room in the garage for them. I sure don't need them THERE even though they are handily holding some stuff. Face it, I will never be able to walk around the end of that table, so I think another set of plastic drawers would go nicely in place of the sewing machine boxes.

I really preferred having some space under the serger for that little basket to hold something to catch the "clippings" in, but it was more important to have some tools close to hand, and the power strip fits better this way. I sewed a few things and it is much better to have it this way. The trashcan is right there and I can scoot it under the serger so it's not a big deal.
Okay. The shelves got a little bit tidied. I also switched out the curtain. They still need a little work, but will do for now.
Plastic Shelves:
  • Bottom Shelf: Batting and Pillows
  • Second Shelf: Fleece, Projects & Baskets
  • Third Shelf: Fabric
  • Top Shelf: Flannel & Cotton Knits
    Deep plastic drawers:
  • Bottom: Fat Quarters & Panels
  • Second Up: Lace
  • Third Up: Embroidery
    Shallow drawers:
  • Bottom: Fasteners: Hooks & Eyes, Snaps, Eyelets
  • Middle: Beads & Embellishments
  • Top: Needles & Pins
    Top two plastic drawers:
  • Bottom: Pre-Cut Quilt Squares
  • Top: Ironing Tools and Aids
  • There are two "shoebox" size drawer units on top of the three shallow drawers. Those will contain pressing tools: water bottle(s), pressing ham, fuseable stuff, etc. and pre-cut quilt squares. The tubs and bags have projects in them.

All the ironing supplies (starch, etc.) are on the shelves.

The shelves hold mostly patterns, which I plan to organize according to what they are:
  • Dresses and Skirts
  • Shirts and Blouses
  • Pants and Shorts
  • Home Decorating
  • Kid Clothes
  • Crafts, Etc.
  • I spy with my little eye a Beanie Baby Bee, which represents my Busy Bee self. Isn't that fun!? "Bee" has been a nickname of mine since my neice Tracy was little-bitty and called me "Aunt Bee."

Each drawer of the sewing cabinet has a purpose:
    1) Embroidery cards and tools 2) Embroidery thread and 3) The Embroidery Machine attachment.

The rest of the sewing stuff was sorted and put away. It became obvious as I was cleaning that the last few times I tried to clean up in there something came up and it all got tossed where ever it would go. So NOW it is as close as it has ever been to in order!
Ginger wants you to believe that it was SHE who cleaned up all the patootie-puddles junk! HAH!

Smack in front of the windows may not be where I want the hobby stuff permanently, but it'lldo for now.

It is still one of my dream plans has window seats or some sort of built in storage there. As the house gets cleaner, I keep thinking of having people over to visit, or sew, or eat, or whatever! That's a pretty cool thought.

    To Do:
    1. Sort fabric by color and/or use/project
    2. Sort and relocate all the books and patterns and such
    3. Sew to my heart's content!!!
  • Oh yeah, paint that wall by the stairs "Ocean Kiss" blue!
  • Look Back at the MESS Again?
