Emily's Green Dress
Emily's dress is made from Simplicity Pattern #5238.

I made it made out of dark green satin with a shimmery sheer skirt overlay and a gold/green braid trim at the waist. Something funny about it is that our pattern envelope (bought at JoAnn's in Fairbanks) says the pattern number is 0544. The picture on the front is the same but the printed pattern says 5238, which I didn't notice. When I took the pattern out to cut out an the straps and almost freaked out, wondering where I had put pattern #0544! Then I saw on the pattern piece in very small letters that it is also 0544. Weird. |

Lessons Learned
Lessons learned while making this dress:
- Your model must be cooperative for fitting and alterations. If they are unavailable, then they just have to take what they get. "If it's too big I can take it in, if it's too small, you're stuck."
- Baste the first seams then try the garment on wrong side out. Then you can pin accurately to fit.
- The overskirt isn't that complicated. Unless you want to construct the back of the garment first and install the zipper (unattached to the overskirt.) In that case, you have to do some planning. And basting.
