| November 2004 |
November seemed to rush right in, obliterating October like a steam roller. November 2nd was the first day we were eager for, we were READY to vote. We voted before work on Tuesday! And then prayed all day long...
The elections are over, and the month seems about half gone! We are counting down for SGT BILL DOURTE's arrival!!!
This gives us plenty to be thankful for, and this year our blessings are more precious than ever.
Bill has a fantastic job with Guardian Flight.
Deb enjoys working at United Academics.
Son Bill may be home from Japan for Christmas.
Annie is learning to cook with Saving Dinner. (ducking)
Emily is happy at North Pole High School, singing and dancing to her heart's content.
It seems as though many of our plans have been snarfled. Bill is in Sitka until December 1. :( We are also disappointed (what a mild word for such intense emotions we are feeling!) that Bill IV's leave didn't work out as hoped. Our fingers are still crossed that we'll get to see him soon! We were counting down until December 8th, but that is reconfigured to countdown to noon on Christmas Eve now.
Anyway. We will continue to find a way or make a way to carry through and enjoy as much as we can. After all, if nothing else we can tell ourselves: "I will sure enjoy this once it is over with!"
We have an ABUNDANCE of blessings. We will not forget that, even though we have disappointments to deal with.
Tuesday November 16, Marzipan had her "lady dog" surgery and will not be having puppies ever. WHEW! She had one cycle of her "lady time" and that was plenty. She's a really good doggie but we don't want little clones of her populating the great northern expanse!
Today is November 18. WHERE has the month gone? Wasn't Sunday Halloween? The way time is flying puzzles me. It used to seem like Christmas took forever to get here, but I am beginning to think that if I blink... I'll wake up and found out Christmas was yesterday! Too weird.
The irritating thing about time going so darned fast is that I don't find the time to do things I really enjoy, like quilting or making web pages.
Marzipan doesn't have much of an appeitite yet, and she has not been going to the bathroom much. As far as I know (and I've been watching her closely) she has only wet one time since her surgery, and has not done any "doodies" at all. We will keep an eye on her, because she has a tendency to go and HIDE... She obviously doesn't like pain or discomfort very much and maybe it seems to her like she's being punished or something. Her spirits seem pretty good most of the time, so we'll just wait it out.
Friday, November 19, 2004. Marzi "wet" this morning... on a potty pad, so I praised her to bits. Finally. That's only twice she's gone, that I know of, since Tuesday... and a little doodie in the afternoon. She is eating more now, mainly because I am putting some Nutri-Cal on her food, and she can't resist it. It's like doggie-marmalade or something, they all just love it and it's loaded with nutrients. She's reluctant to stand up and go to her bowl, so I have finally just started picking her up gently and standing her there, and she'll eat then, and when she's had enough go back and lay down. I'm not sure what has taken the wind out of her sails, when she was doing so well the first and second days, but maybe she is just sore.
(chuckling) I have to wonder what lows my life has sunk to if the dog's toilet habits are the most exciting topic I can discuss! (laughing) I'd better get ready and go to work before I turn into a rock.
November 20, 2004. Today (Saturday) I put up the potrack Bill started for me before he left for Sitka. He did all the hard part -- sanded the wood and drilled the holes and painted it. I put in the eyescrews and stuff, painted the ceiling, put holes in for the hanger thingys and ... hung it. Piece of cake. I don't have all the "S" hooks put on yet but I couldn't do that, I'm not strong enough to pinch them closed. Over the next few days I may tackle it but if not, I'm not concerned. Bill will take care of it when he gets back!
November 24, 2004. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Let's not talk about it, okay? This week has been VERY interesting. Tuesday morning, I broke a mirror. Not just any mirror, but one of the sliding mirror doors in my lighted "medicine" chest that I installed above my vanity table in the bedroom, back in 1998. Oh, heartbreak. Okay, not heartbreak: mirrorbreak. But anyway. If you happen to follow that LINK keep in mind that the Seven Columns Website hasn't been updated since... oh... 1999, Okay?
So. The mirror is broken, okay, but the quirky things were happening before that. For instance... the garage door won't stay shut. It shuts, but then it opens back up again. This may have something to do with the tension of the chain that lifts the door... or it could be gremlins. Also, the dog I was SO worried about not-peeing... peed on my BED, TWICE... and Annie burned her arm on the iron... and the laundry is exploding... cloning... morphing... I don't know it's just GROWING!!! (laughing) Bunches of little things are driving me NUTS! (Although Annie's burn wasn't little, bless her heart. Her Basic First Aid took care of it.)
Emily is working VERY hard with rehearsals for "The Christmas Angel" and her regular dance classes, not to mention SCHOOL. Seems to me Final Exams will be sneaking up on her, as well. Whew! It never lets up!
We have 13 days 12 hours and 13 minutes until Bill's plane lands in Anchorage, which means even LESS time than that to get the house in order. Believe me, it is NOT in order! We need a bulldozer. Considering that we'll leave Fairbanks the day before he arrives that gives us even LESS time. Where are the vitamins! Bring on the caffeine. Let's get ready!!!
We're going to be okay, OKAY??? (laughing)

We had our meal at about 5 pm. Three "Hungry Man" Frozen Turkey dinners, with pumpkin pie for dessert. It wasn't as bad as it could have been... but it was a little more melancholy than I expected. Oh well! It was a nice relaxing day!
