2004

June 2004
We're halfway through 2004 and I have to admit, it's been a rough year. The wonderful high points far outshine the stones in the road, but ... it's still rough. The key is to STAY POSITIVE! (And be extremely thankful for your family!)

Bill is training as a pilot with Guardian Flight in Fairbanks. It's been an extremely stressful month going without his paycheck from May 1 to June 15. He did some part time work which helped keep us fed and fueled, but recovery will be long and hard. Our entire savings, including the IRA are totally wiped out. The really sad thing is, we know we aren't alone... Lots of folks have it even worse.

Since the materials have been sitting around here long enough to become a nuisance, we are continuing with the home improvements, none of which have been completed yet. These don't even include painting the house which was begun in... oh... hm. 1998? I forget. But that's no matter. It's home.

In the meantime we've been keeping VERY busy and we are finishing up painting Emily's room, and in the middle of painting Annie's room.
We finished up the major portion of the painting on June 12, and it is AMAZING. The walls stand out from the reach-in closet (which has no doors and is painted the ceiling color) and the wall with the dark blue looks HUGE. It's absolutely gorgeous. Once she gets a bed (we are going to give her our old queen sized bed that we bought in Germany in ... (thinking) uhm... about 1989 or 90? and we'll sleep on the floor or something until we can get a new one. Deb has drawn plans for shelves/drawers in the closet and will also design a desk to Annie's specifications, to be built when Annie buys the lumber. :)     (Seriously, we have SOME lumber out in the garage to use for the closet shelves, just not for the desk, yet.)

Our favorite television programs are "Trading Spaces", "While You Were Out", and "What Not to Wear." Of course Bill and Annie's favorite is still "Law and Order" now that "Friends" is over. Not that we have all that much time to watch TV!

Annie is sending in job applications, hoping to help us out with our tight budget before she goes to Texas in September. We'll post more on that when we find out! Cross your fingers!
