You Can't Keep a Good Dog Down!
My Memorable Moving Experiences
When we had the earthquake during the night on October 23, 2002, it was no big deal. I was in bed with my Annie-girl, and knew I was safe.
BUT...
Whoa! WHERE were my Annie-girl and Deb when I was all shook up during the November 3, 2002 earthquake? She wasn't in her bedroom, but I was... and when Emily-girl came to get me, I was shaking harder than the ground did!
Ginger and I didn't bark or anything prior to the earthquakes. I guess we just don't care about those kinds of things. We are more interested in chew toys and whether or not the wind is blowing enough to move anything outdoors so Ginger can find a reason to bark. We DO care during the quaking though, which happens to be, as Deb says, "Intense."
My Emily-girl and Daddy-Bill were home when the house began to shake. Emily thought it was Ginger's fault at first, but then realized what was happening and went downstairs. She met Daddy and they stood in our "safety zone" doorway until the shaking stopped. A few little ceramic things fell over, but nothing broke. Swaying continued for quite some time afterward though, and finally, to my relief, I was found and cuddled. Ginger didn't care. She's happy all the time no matter what, unless she's in trouble. (Really, she isn't ALWAYS in trouble!)
My Annie-girl and Deb were ... (where else would they be?) at Snow Goose Quilting and Fibers taking a quilting class. (If you click on that link, you can see the store, and if you wait a while and then run your mouse over the store, there's a picture of the inside!) Those two keep me in stitches with their sewing adventures. This particular class was "Around the Twist" and I think that's appropriate since it is pretty twisted that they weren't at home with me during my crisis!
Annie and Deb got up and stood in the classroom doorway with two other
ladies, because it was shaking so hard they weren't sure they could make it out
of the building -- others went out into the parking lot, as the front
of the store is glass. It shook firmly for what seemed like a long
time -- there is really no way to explain what time does during an
earthquake, it's sort of like during any other emergency --
time is meaningless. Then the store swayed for several minutes as the
ripples passed through. But nothing can stop a quilter! They went back in
and kept on quilting! AND they agreed that quilting is not a hobby, it
is THERAPY. There were several noticable aftershocks, which quilting ladies
basically ignored... nothing can stop them! And you KNOW what they did before they left the shop? (giving you time to guess)
THEY SIGNED UP FOR ANOTHER CLASS!!! On Saturday they will go and learn how to make little handbags, which may be even more cute than they insist they are... but did they have to sign up EMILY, too? Now SHE is going to get all into it! Who will play with me? And, they can't wait to take the beginning serger class, and the machine quilting class, and the machine embellishing class. And they want to sign up for "Star of the Month"... But that's enough! No more! Well, unless something special comes up. (They're crazy!)
The quake was about 90 miles south of Fairbanks, near Cantwell and Denali where the one in
October was... only quite a bit stronger. Intense. (wagging tail) I like that word. That's what Ginger is like. I'm so much more laid back. (doggie grin)
Except when it comes to earthquakes. Those give me the
